Evening Prayer Saturday April 2nd 2022

Our prayers examine scripture and support our response in a prayerful and reflective way. The Reverend Bennett Spong leads Evening and Morning Prayer for the last time this week. Evening Prayer – our last recorded prayer from Charlton Benefice since the start of COVID-19 in March 2020. Bennett reminds us of our common humanity and our hope for all to know God’s peace and joy and he prays for our Lord to bless you and keep you; for the Lord to make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; for the Lord to turn his face toward you and give you peace. Amen.

We pray for world peace – for the people of Ukraine, most especially Mariupol, and we pray for the people of Russia. We pray for wise decision-making, for the moral integrity and courage of all world leaders to stand in opposition against evil, as we contemplate how love overwhelms violence – most especially this night.

And I Saw A New Heaven, by Edgar Bainton (1880 – 1956). Recorded remotely by the Choral Scholars of St Martin-in-the-Fields Church in their homes, and edited together.

This photograph was posted during the first lock down of London in April 2020 – thank you to all who contribute to our prayers and continue to pray with us.
