Morning Prayer Friday July 30th 2021

Ansai leads both Morning and Evening Prayer this week. This day marks the lives of anti-slavery campaigners William Wilberforce, Olaudah Equiano and Thomas Clarkson. We pray for all enslaved in the past and now and we pray for justice and freedom from slavery for all. Today’s Morning Prayer – Ansai considers a passage from Luke’s gospel, chapter 24, verses 13 – 35. This scripture describes Jesus meeting Simon on the road to Emmaus, and the time it took for this disciple to understand he was in Jesus’ presence and that he had risen; “Then their eyes were opened, and they recognised him; and he vanished from their sight. They said to each other, ‘Were not our hearts burning within us while he was talking to us on the road, while he was opening the scriptures to us?’ That same hour they got up and returned to Jerusalem.”
