Morning Prayer Friday March 11th 2022

Rick is one of St Luke’s Church Wardens and he leads both Morning and Evening Prayer this week, in the season of Lent (marking the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert). Morning Prayer – Rick reads a passage from John, Chapter 6, verses 16 to 27. In this scripture John describes Jesus walking across the Lake of Tiberias, (also called the the Sea of Galilee); his Disciples travelling to Capernaum by boat were understandably shocked seeing Jesus waling on the water near them. Adding to the strange witness John gives, he recounts how the crowd then followed them by boat across to Capernaum, where Jesus encouraged them not to follow him just for the food provided but for something far more enduring – a life found in Jesus and God; “‘Very truly, I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate your fill of the loaves. Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For it is on him that God the Father has set his seal.’”

We pray for the people of Ukraine and Russia and for world peace. We pray for wise decision-making and for the moral integrity of all world leaders in the face of evil – most especially this morning.
